They're going for something unique and out-of-the-box, perhaps even as unconventional as Osaka's wicked backhand.

Throughout her pregnancy, Osaka anticipated some wild cravings. But to her surprise, her tastebuds remained pretty chill. No cravings for pickles and ice cream, or bizarre food combinations. Just your typical, run-of-the-mill snacks for this tennis superstar-turned-mum-extraordinaire.

Osaka has also expressed her desire to be the ultimate role model for her little champ, striving to be the kind of person her son or daughter can brag about. No pressure, Naomi; we're sure you'll ace the parenting game just like you do on the court.)

When Osaka made the big announcement on Instagram, she did it with style. In a carousel of photos, she unveiled an ultrasound screen capturing the first glimpse of her future tennis prodigy. But it wasn't just about the picture; she had a heartfelt message to share with her fans.

She reflected on the rollercoaster ride of the past few years and how challenges have shaped her into the fierce competitor she is today. Life's too short to take for granted, and every moment is a precious blessing. Osaka can't wait for her little one to witness her dominating matches and proudly declare, "That's my mum!"

Osaka also has her sights set on the court once again. She's determined to swing back into action after welcoming her baby girl. In her own words, 2023 will be a year of lessons and growth, with Osaka aiming to make her comeback at the Aus Open in 2024.

So, let's all join in a round of applause for the newest tennis mum in town. Naomi Osaka has served up an ace in life's game, and we can't wait to watch her dominate both on and off the court. Congratulations, Naomi and Cordae, on your adorable little match point!

Images: Instagram

Naomi Osaka's stunning new mega-mansion

Naomi Osaka, former World No. 1 tennis player, has forked out $8.7 million (US$6.3m) for former boy-band star Nick Lachey's LA home.

This isn't the first time the famed athlete has bought a home from a pop star. In 2019, Osaka splashed $9.5 million (US$6.9m) on buying Nick Jonas' 90210 pad.

The San Fernando Valley purchase happened off market, according to Dirt, and appears to be a tidy pay day for Lachey and wife Vanessa. The pair only lived there for a year after buying the house in late 2020 for $7 million (US$5.1m).

Nick Lachey is best known as the former 98 Degrees boyband singer, Jessica Simpson's ex-husband and co-host of Netflix's Love Is Blind.

Osaka is well placed to indulge in luxury real estate. Forbes estimates the Japanese-Haitian tennis superstar's income reached $83 million (US$60 million) in a single year, making her the highest-paid female athlete of all time.

Located in LA's Tarzana neighbourhood, the East Coast traditional-inspired manor was newly built in 2015 and boasts an outdoor feature Osaka was no doubt drawn to – a sunken sports court.

Behind a double-gated driveway, the home welcomes you with manicured front garden and driveway parking for a dozen or more cars, plus a four-car garage.

Interiors feature a large gourmet eat-in kitchen with dual islands, a formal dining room sports wainscoting and a patterned wallpaper, a lounge area with beautiful coffered ceiling and fireplace and a temperature-controlled wine cellar.

There's a media room that acts a second comfy lounge room and a "parlor games room" that in listing photos is equipped with pool table and wet bar that can easily seat five sports fans. There's also a movie theatre.

All five of the home's bedrooms enjoy ensuite full bathrooms, with an additional two powder rooms in the residence. The upstairs main suite comes with a fireplace, private balcony, private sitting room and dual closets.

Year-round outdoor entertaining is also on offer, with a covered loggia including fans and a fireplace.

Outside, the resort-style backyard has grassy lawns, a fire pit, stamped concrete patio and a dark-bottomed pool. Plus, there's also a bar and built-in BBQ for summer get togethers.

The best feature of the roughly 2,800sqm property, and no doubt part of the reason Osaka was keen to snag the home, is the aforementioned sports court.

Images: Domain.com.au

Piers Morgan's scathing attack on Naomi Osaka

Piers Morgan is standing by his criticism of Naomi Osaka despite a fierce backlash after he accused her of playing the victim and adopting a strategy straight from the "Meghan and Harry playbook".

The British media personality has been a ferocious critic of Meghan and Harry and in a column for the Daily Mail earlier this week, accused Osaka of exploiting the issue of mental health to avoid attending press conferences at the French Open.

Osaka has since pulled out of the Grand Slam completely after only one round due to mental health reasons, saying she has suffered "long bouts of depression" since 2018 and gets "anxiety" when speaking to the world's media.

While many people were critical of Osaka's initial claim saying the media has no regard for players' mental health, the world has largely shown support to the Japanese athlete following her decision to pull out of Roland Garros and take time away from tennis.

However, Morgan isn’t backing down, responding to a host of tweets criticising him — some of which accused the former TV star of having a problem with women of colour.

“What does her skin colour have to do with it? I’d have written the same column if Naomi Osaka was white. For you to now play the race card to attack & silence any perfectly justified criticism of her behaviour is shameful,” Morgan wrote in response to political commentator Ameshia Cross, who alleged he “hates black women”.

In another tweet, Morgan wrote: “Are high-profile women of colour exempt from criticism regardless of their conduct? Sorry, I must have missed that woke memo! The people I’ve criticised most harshly in the past year are Donald Trump & Boris Johnson and last time I checked, they were identifying as white men.”

“What journalist will dare criticise Naomi Osaka ever again? She’s got what she wanted — no more criticism, only praise,” Morgan added on social media. “Meanwhile all her fellow tennis professionals will continue to fulfil their contractual obligations to the media & get criticism when deserved. This seem fair?

“I have a problem with high-profile people who exploit the media for huge financial gain and then attack the same media and use mental health as a weapon to silence criticism.

“My critiques of people have nothing to do with gender or skin colour & everything to do with how annoying they are.”

Morgan also wrote on Twitter that Osaka had “withdrawn because of the backlash to her attack on the tennis media for doing their job”, rather than mental health problems.

Ash Barty pulled into Osaka drama

An American journalist has dragged World No. 1 Ash Barty into the current drama surrounding Naomi Osaka, claiming that Barty's press conferences are proof of racial bias within the media.

Osaka withdrew from the French Open on Tuesday morning after boycotting press conferences during the Open sparked controversy.

Osaka revealed that she would be taking some time away from tennis to focus on her mental health.

New York reporter Chris Spargo believes otherwise, saying that the issue stems from much more than Osaka's mental health.

“Take a look at the questions Ash Barty is asked in a post-match interview as compared to Naomi Osaka,” Spargo wrote in a now-deleted tweet. “Same journalists, same tournament.

“This is just as much about race as it is about mental health, be it Venus, Serena or Naomi in the press room.”

In the transcript, Barty was asked "Is thet hte best start you think you've had to a grand slam?" and "You're playing so well, what's the next step?" whereas Osaka was asked "You looked a bit nervous" and "Why was it intimidating to see Serena Williams on the other side of the net?".

However, the transcript doesn't mention that Barty's questions were different due to her defeating Montenegrin Danka Kovinic 6-0 6-0 whereas Osaka's questions came after defeating Serena Williams, her tennis idol growing up.

Spargo pointed out that he had to delete the tweet due to "ignorant and racist responses".

Naomi Osaka's decision to withdraw from the French Open has drawn criticism from the boss of the French Open who threatened her with expulsion.

However, he did not take any questions from the media after making this statement.

Osaka, 23, opened up about her mental health struggles and announced she would be pulling out of the grand slam due to the media frenzy surrounding her boycott of media duties.

“Hey everyone, this isn’t a situation I ever imagined or intended when I posted a few days ago,” she wrote on Twitter.

“I think now the best thing for the tournament, the other players and my well-being is that I withdraw so that everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris.”

Osaka made the decision after a $20,000 fine from French Open organisers and threats of expulsion in a signed statement by the chairs of all four grand slams.

“First and foremost, we are sorry and sad for Naomi Osaka,” Moretton said.

“The outcome of Naomi withdrawing from Roland Garros is unfortunate. We wish her the best and the quickest possible recovery and we look forward to having her at our tournament next year.”

Serena Williams has commented on the decision, saying that she did "many" press conferences and that "it made me stronger".

“The only thing I feel is that I feel for Naomi,” Williams said of Osaka’s boycott and subsequent reveal.

“I feel like I wish I could give her a hug because I know what it’s like. Like I said, I’ve been in those positions.

“We have different personalities, and people are different. Not everyone is the same. I’m thick. Other people are thin. Everyone is different and everyone handles things differently.

“You just have to let her handle it the way she wants to, in the best way she thinks she can, and that’s the only thing I can say. i think she’s doing the best that she can.”

Ash Barty officially loses World No. 1 ranking after just 8 weeks

Ashleigh Barty will get one final chance to secure the US Open top seeding after being surpassed as world No. 1 on Thursday.

Reigning Australian and US Open champion Naomi Osaka moved through the third round of the Canadian Open with ease, regaining the sought after position.

Osaka won the first set 6-2 against Tatjana Maria before the German retired due to an injury, giving the Japanese champion an open walkway to the last 16, where she will go head-to-head with Polish qualifier Iga Swiatek.

Osaka or Czech Karolina Pliskova are in the running to claim the No. 1 ranking next week after Barty’s 6-7 (7-5) 6-3 6-4 second-round loss to American Sofia Kenin on Wednesday.

After beating Alison Riske – the American who ended Barty’s 15-match winning streak in Wimbledon last month – Pliskova now also has her eyes on the prize.

Pliskova defeated Riske 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 and will face Anett Kontaveit, who made it to the next round when Carla Suarez Navarro retired.

Regardless, Barty’s eight-week stint as Australia’s first women’s world No. 1 since Evonne Goolagong Cawley in 1976 will be over on Monday.

In the instance that Osaka reaches the quarter or semi-finals, Pliskova will need to compete in the final, or beat Osaka in the title decider to regain her position as No. 1 for the first time since 2017.

But it is not all doom and gloom for Barty – if she shows off a strong performance next week in Cincinnati, she could regain the top spot.

Earlier this week, Williams set the record straight on her side of the story in an essay for Harper’s Bazaar for their August cover and in the letter openly revealed she sent 21-year-old Osaka an apology after the match.

“In the end, my opponent simply played better than me that day and ended up winning her first Grand Slam title,” Williams said.

“I thought back to my first Grand Slam. It’s the one you remember best; it’s supposed to be the most special. This debacle ruined something that should have been amazing and historic.

“Not only was a game taken from me but a defining, triumphant moment was taken from another player, something she should remember as one of the happiest memories in her long and successful career,” she continued.

“My heart broke.”

Williams detailed in the essay struggling to find peace in the days after the match against Osaka and once she began to see a therapist she realised there was “only one way to move forward".

“It was time for me to apologize to the person who deserved it the most,” she said.

“I started to type, slowly at first, then faster as if the words were flowing out of me.”

In her letter to Osaka, Williams said: “Hey, Naomi! It’s Serena Williams. As I said on the court, I am so proud of you and I am truly sorry. I thought I was doing the right thing in sticking up for myself. But I had no idea the media would pit us against each other.

“I would love the chance to live that moment over again. I am, was, and will always be happy for you and supportive of you. I would never, ever want the light to shine away from another female, specifically another black female athlete.

“I can’t wait for your future, and believe me I will always be watching as a big fan! I wish you only success today and in the future. Once again, I am so proud of you. All my love and your fan, Serena.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Harper's BAZAAR (@harpersbazaarus) on Jul 9, 2019 at 6:52am PDT

The tennis star said “tears rolled down” when she received Osaka’s response to her letter.

“People can misunderstand anger for strength because they can’t differentiate between the two… No one has stood up for themselves the way you have, and you need to continue trailblazing.”

The long journey on the road to self-recovery meant Williams considering she was to blame for Osaka’s bittersweet triumph disappeared when her former opponent encouraged her to keep fighting.

“This incident — though excruciating for us to endure — exemplified how thousands of women in every area of the workforce are treated every day,” Williams wrote.

“We are not allowed to have emotions, we are not allowed to be passionate. We are told to sit down and be quiet, which frankly is just not something I’m OK with. It’s shameful that our society penalises women just for being themselves.”

Naomi Osaka reveals mum's bizarre reaction to Aus Open win: "Didn't even say congrats"

Impressing parents can be tough, even for world number one player Naomi Osaka.

The 21-year-old has revealed her mother’s bizarre reaction to her triumph at the Australian Open.

“I called my mom after I did all the press,” Osaka told the WTA Insider Podcast. “She didn't even say congratulations. She was really happy for me, so that was really … I really love talking to my sister.”

Osaka emerged as the 2019 Australian Open champion after defeating Petra Kvitova in Saturday’s final. Osaka also said her father “doesn’t say anything” about her win.

“I guess for me if my mum calls me and she’s excited, that would be the most happiest moment for me, and also my dad,” she said.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Naomi Osaka 大坂なおみ (@naomiosakatennis) on Sep 9, 2018 at 12:34pm PDT

Osaka said she was still getting used to being number one.

“I feel like for the past two years, all I really wanted to do was to be in the Top 10 because I thought that's how you make a name for yourself,” said Osaka.

“To be in this position now is really unreal. Aussies slam Serena Williams' outburst

After an eventful US Open final consisting of Serena Williams throwing a tantrum on the court, the champion player has been dubbed as disgraceful and disappointing by Australian media.

In the playoffs against 20-year-old Japanese player Naomi Osaka, Williams unleashed on the umpire when she was given a code violation for receiving instruction from her coach.

Clearly upset, she responded: “You owe me an apology. I’ve never cheated in my life. I have a daughter and stand for what’s right for her.”

After the events unfolded, Williams addressed her behaviour at a press conference.

“I’ve seen other men call other umpires several things. I’m here fighting for women’s rights and women’s equality,” she said.

“For me to say ‘thief’ and for him to take a game, it made me feel like it was sexist.

“He’s never taken a game from a man because they said ‘thief’. For me, it blows my mind.”

Her conduct was the topic of discussion for commentators as they slammed Williams' comments.

Appearing on ABC’s Offsiders, Fairfax’s Caroline Wilson took offence after Williams justified her behaviour with the women’s rights argument.

“She is doing a terrible disservice to women’s rights, to the #metoo movement, to gender equality,” said Wilson.

“To say she’s fighting for women’s rights when what she is, is a bad sport. She’s not fighting for women’s rights, that is a joke and that’s an insult to people who do fight for women’s rights and go through terrible bloodshed and heartbreak.”

Wilson backed up her statements by pointing out Williams' history of bad behaviour.

“I know we take sport incredibly serious these days but how seriously does Serena Williams take herself sometimes,” she said.

“I mean that is just disgraceful. The comment about having a daughter, women around the world would have cringed at that and will have a look at what she had to say afterwards.

“This is a woman who in 2009 threatened to shove a ball down an umpire’s f-ing throat and was only fined $10,000 by her sport. This is a woman who, again, verbally threatened a linesman in 2014. People have not stood up to Serena Williams.”

The Australian’s Peter Lalor agreed with those sentiments, saying the outburst was hard to watch.

“It was her McEnroe moment,” he said on Offsiders. “It’s very disappointing to see a champion like that let themselves down. Nobody owes you an apology, you owe a lot of people an apology and when you calm down, I hope you realise that.

“It just felt uncomfortable because she really snapped, she really lost it. I felt sorry for her to some degree, but she doubled down later, and she really does owe her opponent an apology. It was poor form.”

On Channel 9’s Sports Sunday, Richard Freedman also had something to say.

“The whole bringing in the motherhood thing, ‘I’ve got a daughter and I don’t want her to think I was cheating’, what about blowing up in front of a stand full of people and international television audience and going on like a two-bob watch, is that what you want your daughter to see,” he said.

“And I cannot get over the crowds cheering that sort of behaviour – what sort of morons are sitting in those stands? – and booing the poor girl who stood at the other end, first grand slam, totally intimidated and then booing her. That’s just unbelievable.”

Osaka made history as she is the first Japanese person to take home the title, and the first Japanese player to win a grand slam event. The 20-year-old is still undefeated in 2018.

But while the achievement was meant to be celebrated, instead what Osaka was faced with was being overshadowed by her much more senior opponent.

Osaka even apologised for winning the match, saying, “I know everyone was cheering for her, I’m sorry it had to end like this.”

Williams was seen comforting the champion and asked the crowd to stop booing.

Do you agree with the umpire’s decision? Or are you on Serena Williams' side instead? Let us know in the comments below.
